Council Update

The College’s Council met December 8. The Council is the governing board of the College and is comprised of physician members elected by physicians and public members appointed by the College through a nominations process.
The Council approved the College’s operating budget for 2024. As well it approved the following Professional Standards:
- Professional Standards Regarding Referral and Consultation for Patients with a Family Physician
- Professional Standards Regarding Virtual Care
- Professional Standards Regarding Physician Responsibilities for Clinical Observers and their Practice
The Council also approved a motion to adopt the federal government’s Model Practice Standard for Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) as a basis for the College’s Professional Standard Regarding Medical Assistance in Dying.
The following registration and licensing policies were also reviewed and approved by Council:
- The Council also approved the Relinquishment of Licence (formerly entitled Removal of Physicians’ Names from the Medical Register of Nova Scotia policy)
- Certificates of Professional Conduct – Requirements for Licensure in Nova Scotia
- Participation in the Welcome Collaborative Physician Orientation Program
The Council next meets in March 2024.
