The Registration and Licensing department ensures that only physicians who are fit to practise obtain a licence. We do this by reviewing these things:

  • credentials
  • training
  • certifications
  • certificates of professional conduct
  • practice history

We also arrange any assessments needed to find out if an applicant is ready to practise according to Canadian standards. This applies to new physicians as well as those who are re-applying for a licence following one or more of these things:

  • a suspension or revocation of a licence
  • an absence from practice
  • a voluntary withdrawal of registration

Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund
The Atlantic Immigrant Career Loan Fund (AICLF) is a micro-loan fund for internationally-trained immigrants in Atlantic Canada. Providing micro-loans to newcomers allows them to overcome financial barriers to upgrade their skills and obtain their license or certification so that they can:

  • Practice their occupation, regulated or unregulated
  • Find opportunities in field or a related field
  • Change career to adjust to the labour market needs
