How to Apply
If you are a physician with training from a Canadian medical school, please read the information on licence types available to Canadian trained graduates before you submit your credentials.
If you are an international medical graduate (IMG), please read the licence types available to internationally trained physicians information before you submit your credentials.
Step 1: You submit your credentials to be verified
- Complete the application for medical registration and submit your credentials through physiciansapply.ca. If you need help with your physiciansapply.ca account contact service@mcc.ca.
- Pay the fees. Fees are non-refundable.
Your application, once submitted through phyisicansapply.ca, is sent to us.

Step 2: We review your application
- If you qualify, we will email you to request documents.
- If you do NOT qualify, we will explain why.
It can take 4 to 6 weeks for you to collect and send all the documents needed.
Step 3: We notify you about your registration
- If you qualify, we will send you instructions and information to pay the applicable fees. Once we receive payment, we aim to issue your licence within 10 business days.
- If you do NOT qualify, we will explain why.
Step 4: You receive your licence to practise
If you are approved for a licence, we issue your licence to practise medicine in Nova Scotia. You will receive a notification by email outlining your responsibilities.
Applications Sent to the Registrar or Registration Committee
When a physician does not meet the requirements set out in the Medical Act and Medical Practitioners Regulations, your application is referred to the Registrar.
The Registrar may:
- approve your application and grant a licence, with or without conditions;
- deny your application and give you information about how to appeal this decision;
- order a competency assessment; and/or
- refer your application to the Registration Committee.
