Physician Practice Enhancement Requirement – Cycle
Purpose
To define a physician’s Practice Enhancement Requirement for the Practice Enhancement Program. This cycle will determine how often a physician is expected to participate in and complete the requirements for the Practice Enhancement Program. The review cycle takes into account the number of physicians eligible for review and the College’s resources.
Policy Statement
Eligible physicians in Nova Scotia, when selected, are required to participate and complete the requirements of their Practice Enhancement activity. This activity includes either the development of a Professional Learning Plan, an Off-Site Peer Review or an On-Site Peer Review.
In usual circumstances, the physician’s practice enhancement requirement cycle will be once every 7 years.
Based on the results of the practice enhancement activity and at the discretion of the Practice Enhancement Committee (PEC), some physicians may be required to complete a re-assessment of their clinical practice. The timeline for the re-assessment will be determined by the PEC.
