New College President

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia is pleased to announce that Dr. William D. Stanish of Halifax has been appointed College President for the 2016-2018 term.

Dr. Stanish is an internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon. His distinguished career includes being named chief medical officer for the Canadian Olympic Team, founder and director of the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Clinic of Nova Scotia and a member of the Order of Nova Scotia. He is currently professor emeritus of surgery at Dalhousie University and holds honourary doctor of laws degrees from St. Francis Xavier University and the University of Prince Edward Island.

Physicians Elected to Council

As a result of the March elections, the following physicians were elected to the College’s Council:

  • Dr. Farokh Buhariwalla, a Sydney family medicine specialist was re-elected in District 1 (the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness, Richmond, Victoria and Cape Breton).
  • Dr. Gary Ernest, a Liverpool family medicine specialist was re-elected in District 3 (the counties of Yarmouth, Shelburne, Queens and Lunenburg).
  • Dr. Rebecca Taylor Clarke, a Port Williams family medicine specialist was elected in District 4 (the counties of Hants, Kings, Annapolis and Digby).

The College extends thanks to all physicians who ran in the Council election and to all those who served on Council and committees in the past year.
