Certification Requirements for Restricted Licence – Emergency Medicine (ABEM)
The American Board Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is an established certification program recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties since 1979. ABEM certified physicians have graduated from:
- The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medial Education (ACGME); or
- An ABEM-approved combined training program; or
- The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Emergency Medicine program.
Emergency Medicine training programs accredited by the ACGME are configured one of two ways: PGY 1-3: A three-year program or PGY 1-4: A four-year program.
If otherwise qualified for licensure, the Registrar, Registration Committee, or the Registration Appeal Committee may issue a Restricted Licence to a physician holding the ABEM Certification.
Practice will be restricted to Emergency Medicine.
