Registration and licensing fees
Physician and Clinical Assistant (Associate Physician) applications and review of qualifications
Determining your eligibility to apply
- Review of qualifications fee: $500 per application
- This fee is a preliminary assessment of qualifications for licensure and applies only to applicants who do not have Canadian certification and the Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC).
- Pay this fee through physiciansapply.ca when you submit the first portion of your application for licensure.
Note: Applicants who hold a Full, unrestricted licence to practise in another Canadian province are exempt from application fees under the Patient Access to Care Act (PACA) and should complete a streamlined application found here.
Applying for a licence
- Application for medical registration fee: $350 per application
- This fee applies to all applicants for a renewable independent practice licence, including those who have paid a fee for a Review of Qualifications.
- Pay this fee through physiciansapply.ca when you submit your application for licensure.
Note: Applicants who hold a Full, unrestricted licence to practise in another Canadian province are exempt from application fees under the Patient Access to Care Act (PACA) and should complete a streamlined application found here.
Physician licences (Academic, Defined, Full, and Restricted licences)
Getting a licence
- One-time registration fee: $300
PLUS licence fee:
- for licences issued between January 1 and June 30: $2300
- for licences issued between July 1 and September 30: $1150
- for licences issued between October 1 and December 31: $295 per calendar month
Renewing your licence
- Annual renewal fee: $2300 per calendar year
- Paper renewal: $150 per renewal (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal Fee)
- Fees for late renewals:
- Late fee for renewals received between December 1 to December 31: $575 (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal Fee)
- Restoration fee for expired licences (expiry date December 31): $625 (this applies to physicians who have NOT provided the College with notice prior to December 31 that they would like to be removed from the Register)

- All physicians practicing under a Defined licence must pay either supervision or sponsor-only oversight fees.
- You must pay Medical Corporation Permit fees if you are incorporated.
Atlantic Registry
- Licence fee: $500 per calendar year
- The Registry is available to all fully licensed physicians licensed and practising without conditions, restrictions, undertakings, or supervision in an Atlantic province. Physicians on the Atlantic Registry can practise throughout Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island after submitting a request to opt in, paying the fee (valid for the calendar year), and receiving confirmation of approval and licensure in the other Atlantic provinces.
Physician short-term licences
Temporary (Locum) licence
Note: Applicants who are fully licensed in another Canadian jurisdiction and have a clean Certificate of Professional Conduct are exempt from all fees for Temporary licensure except the Licence Fee of $354 per 30 days. If you meet these conditions, please contact the College for instructions on applying for a Temporary (Locum) licence.
The following fees apply for all other applicants for a Temporary (Locum) licence:
Getting a licence
- One-time registration fee: $300
- PLUS licence fee: $354 per 30 days, up to 180 days

Emergency licence (restricted)
- There are no fees associated with this application or licence type.
Podiatrist licence
Determining your eligibility to apply
- Review of training program: $600 per application
- This fee is a preliminary assessment of qualifications for licensure. This fee applies to applicants that have received training that is not on the list of accepted programs and schools.
Getting a licence
- For licences issued between January 1 and June 30: $1380
- For licences issued between July 1 and September 30: $690
- For licences issued for full or partial months: $180 per calendar month
Renewing your licence
- Annual renewal fee: $1380 per calendar year
- For licences issued for full or partial months: $180 per calendar month
- Fees for late renewals:
- late fee for renewals received between December 1 to December 31: $345 (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal Fee)
- Restoration Fee for expired licences (expiry date December 31): $375 (this applies to podiatrists who have NOT provided the College with notice prior to December 31 that they would like to be removed from the Register)

Physician Assistant licence
Determining your eligibility to apply
- Review of training program: Not applicable to this licence type
Getting a licence
- For licences issued between January 1 and June 30: $400
- For licences issued between July 1 and September 30: $200
- For licences issued for full or partial months: $50 per calendar month
Renewing your licence
- Annual renewal fee: $400 per calendar year
- For licences issued for full or partial months: $50 per calendar month
- Fees for late renewals:
- late fee for renewals received between December 1 to December 31: $100 (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal Fee)
- Restoration fee for expired licences (expiry date December 31): $115 (this applies to physician assistants who have NOT provided the College with notice prior to December 31 that they would like to be removed from the Register)

Clinical Assistant (Associate Physician) licence
Getting a licence
- One-time registration fee: $300
FOLLOWED BY a licence fee upon successful completion of the probation period:
- for licences issued between January 1 and June 30: $2300
- for licences issued between July 1 and September 30: $1150
- for licences issued between October 1 and December 31: $295 per calendar month
Renewing your licence
- Annual renewal fee: $2300 per calendar year
- Renewal fee if giving up licence in January or February: $295 per calendar month
- Paper renewal: $150 per renewal (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal Fee)
- Fees for late renewals:
- Late fee for renewals received after November 30: $575 (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal Fee)
- Restoration fee for expired licences (expiry date December 31): $625 (this applies to physicians who have NOT provided the College with notice prior to December 31 that they would like to be removed from the Register)

Postgraduate licences
For applicants enrolled in a residency program at Dalhousie University.
Getting a licence
- Licence fee: $200 per academic year
Renewing your licence
- Annual renewal fee: $200 per academic year
- Paper renewal: $150 per renewal (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal fee)
- Late fee for renewals received after May 31: $50 (this fee is added to the Annual Renewal fee)
Related fees
- You must have a Postgraduate Practising (Moonlighting) licence if you want to moonlight.

Postgraduate Training licence for electives
- There are no fees associated with this application or licence type.
Postgraduate Practising (moonlighting) licence
- There are no fees associated with this application or licence type.
Clinical traineeship licence
Getting a licence
- Licence fee: $300 per academic year
Renewing your licence
- Licence fee: Not applicable to this licence type
Clinical Assessment licence
The requirement for a Clinical Assessment licence is determined by the Registrar, the Registration Committee, or an Investigations Committee. The licence fee for assessment is $300 per 30 days. You must also pay assessment fees or supervision fees if you are undergoing an assessment. Other fees are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Getting a permit
- First permit in a 12-month period: $200
- Additional permits in the same 12-month period: $100 per permit
Medical student observership permit
- There are no fees for medical student observers.

Getting a permit
- One-time initial registration and permit fee: $150
Renewing your permit
- Annual permit fee: $100 per calendar year
- Paper renewal: $150 per renewal (this fee is added to the Annual Permit fee)
- Fees for late renewals:
- late fee for renewals received after November 30: $25 (this fee is added to the Annual Permit fee)
- Restoration fee for expired permits (expiry date December 31): $100 (this fee applies to physicians who have NOT provided the College with notice prior to December 31 that they would like to be removed from the Register. This fee is added to the Annual Renewal fee and the Late fee)
Reactivating your permit
- Reactivation fee: No fee to reactivate a permit
- Reactivation applies to physicians who have provided the College with notice prior to December 31 that they would like to be removed from the Register.
Other fees
Professional services fees
- Certificates of Professional Conduct: no charge
- See Request a Certificate of Professional Conduct (CPC) for information on applying for a CPC.
- Seal of the College: $35 per request
- Membership Certificate (suitable for framing): $50 per request
- Injury Management Consultants List: $125 per request
Administrative fees
- Copy of application and application documents: $50 per request plus photocopy fee
- Photocopy fee: $0.50 per page
- Returned payments: $50 per returned payment (this fee is added to the replacement payment)
Appeal and reinstatement fees

Internal Review for Denial of Registration or Licence: $2000 per review
This fee is refunded if the Internal Review Committee rules in favour of the applicant.
Appeal of Registration Committee Decision: $5000 per appeal
This fee is refunded if the Hearing Committee rules in favour of the applicant.
Reinstatement of Registration or Licence: $5000 per reinstatement
Supervision and assessment fees
Supervision fees

Supervision – Defined licence pathway
- Supervisor fee: $6000 per 6 months
- PLUS the College supervision administration fee: $1500
- The physician under supervision pays both fees to the College: 50% upon licensure and 50% at 10 weeks.
High level supervision
- Supervisor fee: $200 per hour plus expenses (the physician under supervision pays this fee to the College when the period of supervision is complete)
- PLUS the College supervision administration fee: $2000 per period of supervision (the physician under supervision pays this fee to the College before the period of supervision starts)
Customized supervision
- Supervisor fee: $200 per hour plus expenses (the physician under supervision pays this fee to the College when the period of supervision is complete)
- PLUS the College supervision administration fee: $2000 per period of supervision (the physician under supervision pays this fee to the College before the period of supervision starts)
Sponsor-only oversight
- Fee: $200 per calendar year
- The physician on sponsor-only oversight pays this fee with the annual license renewal or upon a change to sponsor-only oversight.

Comprehensive Clinical Assessments of Practice (CCAP)
Assessor fee: $200 per hour plus expenses
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College when the assessment is complete.
PLUS CPSNS Assessment Administration fee: $2000 per assessment
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College before the assessment starts.
Re-entry to-practice assessments
Assessor Fee: $200 per hour plus expenses
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College when the assessment is complete.
PLUS CPSNS Assessment Administration Fee: $2000 per assessment
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College before the assessment starts.
Practice assessments
Assessor fee: $200 per hour plus expenses
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College when the assessment is complete.
PLUS CPSNS Assessment Administration Fee: $2000 per assessment
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College before the assessment starts.
Practice Ready Assessments – specialists other than family medicine
Assessor fee (8 weeks) – where applicable: $7000 stipend
Assessor fee (12 weeks) – where applicable: $9400 stipend
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College when the assessment is complete.
PLUS CPSNS Assessment Administration Fee: $2000 per assessment
The physician under assessment pays this fee to the College before the assessment starts.
Refund policy
Registrants who give up their licence prior to July 1 may be eligible for a refund of half of their annual licence fee.
Registrants who take pregnancy or parental leave may be eligible for a partial refund of the annual licensing fee for the following licence types:
- physician annual licencing fee
- podiatry annual licencing fee
- physician assistant annual licencing fee
- clinical assistant (associate physician) licencing fee
- postgraduate licencing fee
All other fees are non-refundable. Please refer to College policy “Partial Refund of Licensure Fees for Pregnancy and Parental Leave.”
Notes to fee schedule
- All fees are non-refundable, except where indicated.
- All fees are paid directly to the College, except where indicated.
- Payments can be made by Cheque, Visa, Mastercard, Visa/Debit, or some Debit cards (TD, Scotiabank, RBC, or BMO only).
