Welcoming Physicians

Welcome Collaborative March 2024

In September, 26 physicians participated in a 3-day welcome orientation at the College.

The Welcome Collaborative hosted its largest orientation to date with 26 physicians participating in the September session. This physician cohort included the following specialists: 12 in family medicine, four in internal medicine, four in anesthesiology, two in psychiatry, one in emergency medicine, and one in geriatric medicine.

The Welcome Collaborative orientation program supports the integration of physicians trained outside of Canada (PTOCs) to successfully practice in the Nova Scotian healthcare system.

Of the participating physicians, four hold a Full licence, one holds an Academic licence, and two hold a Clinical Assistant licence. The remaining 19 have been issued a Defined licence and, as such, are under supervision on a pathway to independent licensure.

Twenty physicians will participate in the next Welcome Collaborative to take place December 4 – 6.

The Welcome Collaborative continues to be recognized nationally. In November the program’s staff have been invited to present with ISANS at the annual national Pathways to Prosperity conference. Their workshop panel will explore recruitment strategies for healthcare professionals.
