18 Physicians Attend Orientation

Welcome Collaborative March 2025

The African Nova Scotian Patients session was delivered for the first time by Rose Fraser at the March Welcome Collaborative.

The Welcome Collaborative hosted 18 internationally trained physicians during its March 25–28 session. The orientation program delivers a curriculum to support the successful integration of internationally trained physicians to practice in Nova Scotia. The program provides an opportunity for physicians trained outside of Canada to connect with each other and continue to build a professional network to support their continued practice.

The March gathering included the new session “African Nova Scotian Patients” delivered by Rose Fraser, a retired nurse, and health care advocate and educator. The session aims to provide an understanding of the history of African Nova Scotians, teach culturally sensitive and appropriate care techniques, and identify the unique health challenges faced by African Nova Scotians.

The participants included nine family medicine specialists and physicians with the following specialties: three from internal medicine, three from psychiatry, one from emergency medicine, one from pediatrics, and one from ophthalmology.

Twelve of the 18 physician participants are on a Defined licence, four are on Full licence, one is on an Academic licence, and one is on a Clinical Assessment licence.
