College announces decision regarding Dr. Javed Ali

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia hereby gives notice that pursuant to section 57 of the Nova Scotia Medical Act, the license to practice medicine of Dr. Javed Ali of Sydney, Nova Scotia will be suspended for a period of two months, commencing on June 5, 2012 and continuing to and including August 4, 2012.

This suspension will apply to all aspects of Dr. Ali’s practice of medicine, with the exception that during the period of the suspension, Dr. Ali shall continue to treat his opioid-dependent patients in his private practice for their opioid dependence, but not for any other purpose. The requirement to treat these patients is for the purpose of ensuring continuity of care for these patients regarding their opioid dependence.
