College suspends license of Dr. Leo Wisniowski

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia has announced that pursuant to a Hearing Committee Decision incorporating a Settlement Agreement, Dr. Leo Wisniowski, a family practitioner in Chester Basin, Nova Scotia, has been suspended from the practice of medicine for a period continuing to and including August 25, 2006.

Dr. Wisniowski has agreed to a statement of facts outlined in the Settlement Agreement and admits that he is guilty of professional misconduct. The charges against Dr. Wisniowski relate to sexual boundary violations with a patient to whom he was providing marital counselling.

The statement of facts and the penalty to which Dr. Wisniowki has consented are contained in the summary agreement.

The College acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors.
