  • College Announces Decision Regarding Dr. Sarah Jones

    The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia hereby gives notice that as a result of a complaint and pursuant to the Nova Scotia Medical Act, the Hearing Committee of the College approved a Settlement Agreement on June 26, 2019, with reasons to follow. Those reasons have now been issued and are available in the Committee’s written decision (PDF).

    The Settlement Agreement contains Dr. Jones’ admissions of professional misconduct, incompetence, and incapacity. The Settlement Agreement also contains agreed-upon sanctions including a 36-month suspension, strict conditions to be met before Dr. Jones may return to practice, and extensive conditions and restrictions on Dr. Jones’ practice when she does return. The Settlement Agreement is included as a Schedule to the Hearing Committee’s written decision.

    Update March 17, 2022 – By letter dated March 8, 2022, and with the agreement of Dr. Jones and the College,  the Hearing Committee lifted the restriction set out in paragraph 126(g)(iii) of the Settlement Agreement. As such, the prior restriction preventing Dr. Jones from prescribing benzodiazepines, and zoplicone, zaleplon or additional members of this class of drugs that may emerge (collectively the “Z-drugs”) is lifted effective March 8, 2022.

  • College Announces Decision Regarding Dr. Jacob Puthenparumpil

    The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia hereby gives notice that as a result of two complaints and pursuant to the Nova Scotia Medical Act, the Hearing Committee of the College approved a Settlement Agreement on April 26, 2019, with reasons to follow.  Those reasons have now been issued and are available in the Committee’s written decision accessible below.  The Settlement Agreement contains an admission of professional misconduct and agreed upon sanctions including reprimands, a one month suspension scheduled to commence on June 22, 2019 and a requirement for remedial education.  The Settlement Agreement is included as a Schedule to the Committee’s written decision.
