Report from Council

The College’s governing Council met on December 12. The Council is composed of physician members elected by registrants and public members appointed by the College through a nominations process. Nova Scotia’s medical school holds a Council seat, and medical learners are represented as observers.

The Council governs the College in the public interest and in accordance with the Medical Act. At its December meeting, the following new professional standards were approved by Council:

Professional standards and guidelines regarding ending the physician-patient relationship and reducing the size of a medical practice
Professional standards regarding artificial intelligence (AI) scribes in clinical care

The College acknowledges that we are in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq people. This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship. We also acknowledge that people of African descent have been in Nova Scotia for over 400 years, and we honour and offer gratitude to those ancestors.
