April Orientation Welcomes 20 Physicians

The Welcome Collaborative is a new orientation program to help arriving physicians who have trained outside of Canada integrate successfully into the Nova Scotian healthcare system.

Over the next three years, the Welcome Collaborative will host 140 doctors trained outside of Canada to address gaps in their onboarding experience.

Over the next three years, the Welcome Collaborative will host 140 doctors trained outside of Canada to address gaps in their onboarding experience. The orientation program will connect these doctors to support, mentorship and a sense of community, all of which are critical to long-term success in practice.

As important as the teaching sessions, the Welcome Collaborative enables the College to directly hear the experiences, challenges and concerns of physicians arriving in Nova Scotia. The Welcome Collaborative is committed to improvement and will shape its programming in response.

The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia developed the program, which is delivered with physician leaders and stakeholders, including Nova Scotia Health, Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS), and Doctors Nova Scotia.

In April, 20 physicians participated in a 3-day welcome orientation at the College along with Dr. Gus Grant the College’s Registrar and CEO (seated centre) and  Director, Physician Performance Rhonda Kirkwood (standing far left) and George Chimdi Mbara, Program Manager (standing far right).
