Podiatrist license
About
As of April 1, 2024, the College began regulating and licensing podiatrists in Nova Scotia. The Registration Department reviews all applications.
The College is committed to ensuring that only qualified, competent, and ethical podiatrists are licensed in Nova Scotia.
Before you apply

Ensure you meet all qualifications for licensure listed in the credentials checklist.

If you do not have a work permit, permanent residency, or Canadian citizenship, review the immigration requirements.

If you have an offer of employment at an existing clinic, ask as to whether there are supports for immigration.

If you want to open your own private practice, talk to an immigration specialist before you apply.

Review the scope of practice for podiatrists in Nova Scotia in the College’s policy.
Credentials
Recognized degree
- You need a recognized degree from a school listed in Appendix A of the College’s policy.
- If you want to prescribe medicine, include details about your pharmacology courses.
Currency of practice
Complete at least 450 hours of clinical practice in the scope of practice you intend to practice in Nova Scotia within the three years preceding your start date in Nova Scotia.
Completing your application
Upon submission, your Registration Agent will set up your application in the system. You will receive notification and access to a list of required documents to complete your application for licensure.
After licensure
- You must join the Nova Scotia Podiatry Association’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program and keep your training up to date. Read more about the College's CPD requirements.
- You need to renew your licence every year with the College.
