Dr. Gary Ernest
Dr. Gary Ernest has worked in rural family practice since 1982, conducting minor procedures, inpatient care, home visits, nursing home care, administrative duties and working emergency department shifts.
Dr. Ernest is an assistant professor of family medicine at Dalhousie University. He teaches third and fourth year medical students as well as family medicine residents who join him for rural family medicine rotations. He has also accepted McGill University medical students for family medicine electives. In the past he has given seminars relating to the business aspects of running a medical practice.
Dr. Ernest has three grown children, the youngest of whom is still in university. When his children were young, he was involved in their sports programs. Currently, his extra-curricular involvement relates to his local hospital (Chief of Staff), and Doctors Nova Scotia (numerous committees, including co-chair of the Policy and Health Issue Committee). On a non-work level, his hobby is physical fitness.
Dr. Ernest has been a Council member since 2013. He currently sits on the Finance and Audit, Nominating and Investigation committees.
